Befriending

Feeling lonely? Need a friendly face?

Our Befriending service offers friendly visits or phone calls for people in New Mills and surrounding areas who are feeling lonely, isolated, or would simply welcome more regular contact.

Our volunteers are here to bring warmth, companionship and a listening ear. That might mean a regular chat, sharing stories, meeting for a brew, or a friendly visit at home.

Befriending can offer

  • Someone to talk to
  • Regular friendly contact
  • A listening ear from someone local
  • Companionship at home or over the phone
  • A chance to feel more connected to your community

What befriending includes

Friendly phone calls

For people who would prefer a phone call, we can match you with a volunteer who will check in regularly and have a chat. A regular phone call can give someone something to look forward to and help them feel less isolated.

Home visits

For people who would benefit from face-to-face company, a volunteer may be able to visit at home for conversation and companionship. This might include a chat, sharing stories, playing a game together, or simply spending time with someone who would value the company.

Meeting for a brew

Some people may prefer to meet for a brew, fresh air and friendly company. We’ll talk through what support may be available and what feels right for you.
